Designing dynamic workspaces for modern businesses

The humble office space for Utkal Engineers, manufacturers and suppliers of material handling equipment is an eclectic assembly of the designer’s vision and the client’s dream. The workspace is a striking balance of clients’ inclination towards a material-led style and designers' vision of introducing a playful emphasis to the space. The client has a single line brief “Let my office be a subtle workspace with a soft and pleasing ambience and a dash of colour. We believe that the right use of colour will improve employee productivity and ensure a healthy work environment.”

The different parts of the office are connected with multiple design elements. An important aspect being the light fixtures. They have been custom designed for the space in order to complement the geometric language of the space as a whole. Another important feature is the design of the metal partitions. With the products produced by the company acting as metaphors, the partitions were designed to reflect them. The selected material and finishes such as terrazzo finish tiles, laminate with concrete finish appearance, metal partitions also acted as metaphors to the industry the client belonged to. The consistency in the language of design with respect to choice of material, colour and form provides unparalleled coherence.
